Other dates to remember for the 2022 tax season

April 18, 2022 (Monday)

Tax returns and payments owed must be submitted if an extension hasn’t been requested.

If a filing extension is requested, the taxpayer’s tax bill is also due on April 18th. The filing extension is, as its name implies, an extension to file a return.

Taxes are normally due on April 15th. This year, taxpayers have a few extra days to pay their taxes due to Washington, D.C.’s Emancipation Day holiday. Although this day isn’t observed elsewhere, all taxpayers, including those not residing in the U.S., are able to submit their tax returns and tax payments by April 18, 2022.

April 19, 2022 (Tuesday)

Taxpayers in Maine or Massachusetts must submit their tax returns and tax payments by April 19th if they aren’t filing an extension. This is due to the two states’ observation of the Patriots’ Day holiday.

October 17, 2022 (Monday)

Taxpayers who filed a tax filing extension must file their 2021 returns by on or before October 17, 2022.
